Outlaw Women of the Wild West

Cowgirl waering a bandana covering her mounthRead on to learn all about Pearl Hart and Laura Bullion, a.k.a the Rose of the Wild Bunch… and believe us fellas, these female outlaws are so badass, you’ll want to tip your hats to them!and Laura Bullion are bad ass babes that are quick-witted gun wranglers that’ll drink any man twice their size under the table. These women of the Wild West shatter all stereotypes and although a little rough around the edges, serve as a reminder to never judge a book by it’s cover!   Pearl Hart was born in Lindsay, Canada, in 1871 and she enjoyed adventure way more than school. At age 17 this wild womanmoved to Chicago, eloped to Frederick Hart, a somewhat famous gambler at the time, only to leave him five years later and move to Arizona with a miner named Joe Boot. The new pair quickly learned that they couldn’t make ends meet, so they turned to robbery. Hart decided to cut her hair, dress as a man, and rob a stagecoach. She was not youraverage criminal, she would leave some money for the victims in order to ensure they got home safe after the robbery. Hart is famously quoted for the line she uttered while at trial that goes as follows: "I shall not consent to be tried under a law in which my sex had no voice in making." Laura Bullion on the other hand was born into a life of crime. Her bank robber Native American father led her into the gang life. As Bullion became older she joined the Wild Bunch gang and became known as the “Rose of the Wild Bunch.”

Bullion was known for selling stolen goods and making prominent connections that provided the gang with a steady supply of horses. On certain occasions, Rose of the Wild Bunch would dress as a man and assist the bunch in a series of train robberies. She was unafraid and strong, she most definitely was someone who people wanted to keep on her their good side.

What makes Bullion so interesting is that despite her wild life and incredible upbringing, she managed to turn it all around and become a productive member of society. After spending three and a half years in jail for her crimes, she retired from the list of women of the Wild West and settled down as an interior designer in Memphis, Tennessee. How ironic, a woman who most people would want to keep out of their homes, was later brought in willingly… talk about a redemption story!
